Who is the chef?
My name is Gennaro Garofalo and I am the executive Chef at Amici. I was born in the beautiful city of Naples, where the cuisine highlights the culinary traditions of the Campania region, featuring a variety of dishes based on fresh ingredients from both land and sea.
I started cooking at the early age of 16, training at my uncle Giovanni's restaurant. He taught me that a wonderful meal begins with the butcher, fishmonger and the green-grocer and that if you cannot find the right ingredients in the best condition, then it is better to choose a different trade…
I spent the next few years travelling in Southern Italy and was fortunate enough to work with Michelin-starred chefs Alois Vanlangenaeker and Tonino Mellino. My journey brought me to London, working first with Angela Hartnett and later with Richard Corrigan, at Bentley's Oyster Bar & Grill.
Amici has re-opened after a long renovation. From shopping and cooking with Giovanni, I have learned that good food is about choosing the best ingredients and keeping things simple. That is what I believe, and that is the essence of Amici's new menu.
